Summary

  • The following sums are appropriated: $32,500 for administrative office expenses of the Smithsonian Institution; $48,208 for international exchanges; $60,300 for ethnological researches among the American Indians and the natives of Hawaii, including the excavation and preservation of archaeologic remains; $7,460 for the International Catalogue of Scientific literature; and $33,200 for maintenance of the Astrophysical Observatory. These sums are provided for the National Museum: $29,560 for cases, furniture, etc.; $84,040 for heating, lighting, electrical, telegraphic, and telephonic service and traveling expenses; $502,546 for preservation and increase of collections from the surveying and exploring expeditions of the Government, including necessary employees; and $17,730 for repairs of buildings, shops, and sheds.
  • Also $2,000 for purchase of books, pamphlets, and periodicals for reference; and $450 for postage stamps and foreign postal cards. The sum of $95,000 is appropriated for all printing and binding for the Smithsonian Institution, including the report of the American Historical Association.
