Summary

The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute Establishes a Center for Tropical Forest Science. This center will encompass a program of long term research in tropical forest conservation and management, through an interdisciplinary approach aimed at understanding the plant, animal and human interactions in tropical forests. STRI will collaborate with the leading institutions in the tropics and the United States, work to promote education, training, workshops and conferences to promote the goals of the Center, provide senior scientific staff at affiliated institutions with formal association with STRI, and collaborate in the long-term funding and endowment of the Center's programs.
