Summary

During the Convention of Superintendents of Common Schools of Albany, New York on May 12-15, 1846, the convention passed a resolution in favor of immediate action on the part of Congress toward the establishment of the Smithsonian Institution. The convention expressed "deep mortification and painful regret" that the fund had remained unused for so long and urged Congress to take action. Copies of the resolution were sent to each of the United States Senators from New York.
