Summary

The Board of Regents agreed on the following resolutions, that premiums be awarded for papers published in the "Smithsonian Contributions to Knowledge" 2. Specific appropriations for research should be made and the results of such research should be published. 3, Brief and popular publications on subjects of broad interest should be made available to the public. 4, There should be reports on the "progress of knowledge". 5, Lectures should be included in the plan. 6, The collection of specimens and the library are to be the primary methods of diffusing knowledge. 7, Annual appropriations should be made for the library and collections and for the preparation and publication of articles contributing to the advancement of knowledge. The Board also made resolutions that the Secretary should present a plan for executing the Board's resolutions and the secretary should be instructed to continue his own research.
