Summary

The Senate takes up the bill, with an amendment, to repeal the sixth section of the 1838 Act to provide for the support of the Military Academy of the United States and prohibit the investment of US funds in state stocks. The proposed amendment states the treasury should invest the interest accruing from the investment of the Smithson fund in the stocks of several states in the stock of the United States.
