PrintIt is in the best interests of the United States to maintain, develop, and disseminate the Nation's artistic and cultural resources. The establishment of a National Council on the Arts will provide recognition and assistance and will encourage and promote the Nation's artistic and cultural progress. A National Council on the Arts is established in the Executive Office of the President. The Council shall be composed of the Chairman, the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, and twenty-four members appointed by the President. Provisions are set forth concerning the term of office, vacancies in the Council, duties and responsibilities of the Chairman of the Council and the Council, and compensation of members of the Council. The sum of $150,000 is appropriated to carry out the purposes of this Act.
