An Act to establish a national air museum, and for other purposes

PrintThe act creating the National Air Museum in order to document the national development and growth of aviation. A National air museum Board is created in order to assist the Smithsonian Institution with the creation of the museum. The Secretary of the Institution is directed to find a suitable location for the museum. The organization and procedures of the board are set forth. The Institution is required to include in its Annual Report a statement of operations of the museum. The heads of government departments are to transfer or loan aircraft, aircraft parts, instruments, engines, or other aeronautical equipment or records for exhibition and educational purposes to the museum. The Secretary of the Institution is granted permission to accept a statue of Brigadier General William L. Mitchell to be displayed on the grounds of the museum. $50,000 is appropriated in order to carry out this act.
