Meacham Minority Report of the Special Committee of the Board of Regents of the Smithsonian Institution
Close
PrintMinority report written by James Meacham promoting the Smithsonian Library. Written in protest of the majority report of the Select Committee written by James A. Pearce stating that the compromise resolutions of 1847 dealing with the division of income of the Institution should be abolished, that there should be no equal division between the "active operations" of the Institution and the Library and Museum. The majority report recommended that appropriations be examined yearly and based on the importance of the operation.
