Summary

Select Committee created upon the resignation of Rufus Choate from the Board of Regents to investigate whether the Smithsonian was being administrated according to law. Second report of the committee. William Witte affirmed Secretary Joseph Henry's leadership of the Smithsonian and denied accusations of maladministration after Henry fired the Institution's librarian, Charles C. Jewett.
