Summary

Congressional report to accompany legislation, S. 817. The Committee on Merchant Marine and Fisheries reported favorably and recommended that bill (S. 817) be passed to amend the act of July 2, 1940. The purpose of the bill (S. 817) is to increase the annual limitation of funds authorized to be appropriated for the Canal Zone Biological Area (CZBA) from $350,000 to $750,000. The increase was necessary to maintain facilities and to accommodate growing level of research activity. Increased funds also needed to cover indirect costs associated with the administration of the CZBA, which before have not been charged under the authorization limitation.
