Memorandum of Understanding of July 1969 between the National Park Service and the Smithsonian Institution relating to archeological and paleontological surveys within reservoir areas. This MOU outlines the relationship between the Smithsonian and Park Service in relation to the river basin salvage program and any archeological and/or paleontological specimens uncovered in the course of such surveys. The original was signed by George B. Hartzog, Jr., Director of the National Park Service, and S. Dillon Ripley, Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution.

This MOU is a revision of the April 1965 MOU signed by George B. Hartzog, Jr., Director, National Park Service, and S. Dillon Ripley, Secretary, Smithsonian Institution, and the 27 April 1961 MOU signed by E. T. Scoyen, Acting Director of the National Park Service, and Leonard Carmichael, Secretary of the Smithsonian, which was a revision of the 1945 MOU.
