Summary

Memorandum of Understanding of September 21, 1993, between the United States Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, and the Smithsonian Institution relating to their respective responsibilities in relation to NAGPRA, the Native American Graves Protections and Repatriation Act, 25 USC Section 3001, of 1990. This MOU outlines procedures for both the Smithsonian and Forest Service to survey collections in Smithsonian custody that may have been excavated from Forest Service lands, and take steps to ensure their repatriation. The original was signed by Sterling J. Wilcox, for the USDA Forest Service, and Constance B. Newman, UnderSecretary of the Smithsonian Institution.
