Summary

  • The following sums are appropriated for the Smithsonian Institution: $50,000 for international exchanges; $44,000 for American ethnology; $7,500 for the International Catalogue of Scientific Literature; $13,000 for the Astrophysical Observatory; $20,000 for the National Museum;$70,000 for heating, lighting, etc.; $312,620 for preserving the collections;$10,000 for repairs of buildings; $2,000 for books, etc.; $500 for postage stamps and foreign postal cards; $15,000 for the administration of the National Gallery of Art by the Smithsonian Institution; $125,000 for the National Zoological Park, half of which sum shall be paid from the revenues of the District of Columbia; and $80,000 for the purchase of additional lands.
  • Also $20,000 for improving the grounds around the Freer Art Gallery; and $76,000 for the annual reports of the National Museum, the Bureau of American Ethnology, the American Historical Association, and for miscellaneous printings for International Exchanges, the International Catalogue of Scientific Literature, the National Zoological Park, and the Astrophysical Observatory.
