Summary

Secretary Charles Doolittle Walcott had received a condensed list of art objects in Mr. Charles Lang Freer's collection and calculated the value of his entire collection to be $873,398.90. He also asked Mr. Freer to consider transferring the funds now that were intended for the construction of the gallery to the Smithsonian to be used for maintaining the collection, if the Government would provide for the building.
