This documentary edition traces Joseph Henry's (1797-1878) first years as first Secretary of the new Smithsonian Institution, as he attempted to place into effect his plan for the Institution. A physicist noted for his work in electromagnetic induction, Henry focused the Institution's efforts on basic scientific research and publication.
