Summary

The author gives a travelogue-type description of plant and animal life existing in the tropical seasonal evergreen forest of Barro Colorado Island in the Panama Canal Zone. Only passing reference is made at the beginning of the article that the island is a tropical wildlife reserve with a research laboratory, both under the jurisdiction of the Smithsonian Institution.
