Summary

A lengthy but vivid description of procedures involved in the patent application and grant process, with an account of the work which took place at the Patent Office of the United States at the time the article was written in 1891. A brief description of the Patent Office building is given; it later became the Smithsonian Institution's National Portrait Gallery, and houses the Patent Model Collection.
