Summary

During 1855 and 1856 specimens continue to be added to the museum's collection, primarily from: the surveys of the U.S.-Mexico boundary and the Pacific railroad route; the North Pacific Exploring Expedition under Captain Ringgold; the expedition to the Parana and its tributaries under Captain Page; the California coastal exploration headed by Lieutenant Trowbridge; exploration of the Missouri and Yellowstone rivers, under Lieut. G. K. Warren, accompanied by Dr. F. V. Hayden as geologist and naturalist (1856); and various other U.S. Army expeditions.
