- The last of three reports by National Museum Building Commission members, Regent W. T. Sherman, Regent Peter Parker, and Secretary Spencer Fullerton Baird, addressed to the Board of Regents on the progress of the U.S. National Museum Building, now known as the Arts and Industries Building. The report provides the Regents with an update on the operations connected with the new building to include the construction, reception ceremonies for the inauguration of President Garfield, and occupancy of the United States Geological Survey and the Bureau of Ethnology in the northeast pavilion.
- Also summarized in the report are the efforts of the Commission, General Montgomery Meigs as consulting engineer, and architects Cluss and Schultz. The report concludes with an announcement of completion of the building, a notification of a credit to the building fund, and a request for the dissolution of the Commission. Accompanying this report is a Report of the Architects by Adolph Cluss and Paul Schulze, the supervising architects who provide a technical and descriptive record of the latest progress on the building and an itemized list of expenditures.
