Summary

The work consists of a biographical sketch of Isaac Lea which includes his early life and early studies in natural history, his scientific research and visits to Europe, and gives brief mention to his relationship with Charles Wilkes. The remainder of the work is devoted to a bibliography of the publications of Lea from 1818 to 1876 and an alphabetical subject list of species discovered and described.
