Summary

A preface to the works declares that the volumes "give the legislative history of the Smithsonian Institution... prefixed to this will be found a selection of the documents which passed between the United States and the attorneys in England antecedent to the actual reception of the bequest of James Smithson." Of particular interest are the numerous Congressional documents included in the volumes. These cover every aspect of the history of the Smithsonian Institution. Also includes lists of Members of the Establishment and Board of Regents by occupation.
