Summary

Work includes Journal of Proceedings of the Board of Regents from 1846-1876. Also contains Reports of Special Committees pertaining to several events, including the invention of the magnetic telegraph, the fire of 1865, the Corcoran Art Gallery, etc. Presents eulogies and biographical sketches of those related to the Smithsonian, including Richard Rush, Joseph Priestly, Washington Irving, William Winston Seaton and Alexander Dallas Bache (written by Joseph Henry), Louis Agassiz and Charles Coffin Jewett. Also contains the will of Alexander Dallas Bache, the bequest of James Hamilton, a circular sent with specimens presented to the SI, as well as Reports of the Executive Committee from 1847-1875, the Journal of the Building Committee and Reports of the Building Committee from 1847-1867, and statistics of literary and scientific exchanges and by-laws of the SI.
