Consists of a compilation of Charles Rau's papers in the Annual Report of the Smithsonian Institution, 1863-1877, and includes translation of Jakob Baegert's Account of Aboriginal Inhabitants of the California peninsula and of Frenecz Floris Romer's Prehistoric Antiquities of Hungary; a memoir of C. F. P. von Martius; and articles by Rau on agricultural implements, shell-deposits, Indian pottery, stone drilling, aboriginal trade, gold ornaments and lapidary.
