Summary

Obituary of George Brown Goode (1851-1896), Assistant Secretary in charge of the United States National Museum at the Smithsonian Institution. Goode was an ichthyologist and specialist in museum theory and practice. He served as curator in the United States National Museum from 1873 to 1881. When the new National Museum building opened in 1881, Goode was named Assistant Director and was appointed Assistant Secretary in charge of the United States National Museum in 1887.
