Work details the history of American flight and aviation. Contains much information on the role of Smithsonian Secretary Samuel P. Langley in aviation and aerodynamics research, especially in regard to the aerodrome. Contains photographs of Langley, his instruments, models of his aerodrome. Also gives brief biographical summary about Langley and contains information on the Hodgkins Fund and Medal, administered by the Smithsonian Institution.
