Summary

Work documents the history of the National Museum of History and Technology (National Museum of American History). Includes history of the Smithsonian, the Centennial Exposition, and information on early Smithsonian administrators, such as Carl W. Mitman and Frank A. Taylor. Also includes information on SI programs, including "The World is Yours;" exhibits, such as the First Ladies' exhibit; the exhibits modernization program and the Office of Exhibits; the effect of World War II on the Smithsonian; and the road to the construction of the American History Building. Also gives architectural analyses of proposed plans for the construction of the building.
