During 1852, as a result of the Smithsonian's program of publication exchange, 572 packages are sent out, containing 9,195 articles and weighing 9,855 pounds. The Institution receives 4,745 articles, as well as 637 packages containing an unknown number of volumes for other institutions. Nine people participate in the annual lecture series.
