Summary

For calendar year 1998, 28.6 million visits were made to Smithsonian museums. This is an increase of 4 percent over 1997. Visits to three museums, the National Air and Space Museum, the National Museum of Natural History, and the National Museum of American History, account for 77 percent of all visits.
