Summary

The Museum of the American Indian (MAI) executive committee recommends rejection of the proposal to merge with the American Museum of Natural History. The reasons given by director Roland Force were that MAI wanted administrative autonomy and that there was not adequate space offered. Force also stated that talks would begin again with H. Ross Perot who offered $70 million to move the museum to Texas. Note: This ends many years of negotiations of a possible merger between MAI and AMNH.
