Ralph Rinzler assumes duties of director of the Office of Public Service. He will oversee the Smithsonian Magazine, the Smithsonian Institution Press, the Office of Telecommunications, the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Office of Smithsonian Symposia and Seminars, and the Visitor Information and Associates' Reception Center. Oversight of the Office of Folklife Programs, where Rinzler served as director, is transferred to the Office of Public Service, as of April 17.
