Summary

Irwin I. Shapiro is named director of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, effective January 1, 1983. He also became, as of July 1, Paine professor of practical astronomy at Harvard and a Smithsonian senior scientist. Effective January 1983, Shapiro takes over as director of the Harvard College Observatory and the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory.
