Summary

A snowstorm forces the Smithsonian to close at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 22. The Smithsonian was also closed all day on Monday, January 26. This was the first time the SI closed because of inclement weather since Februray11, 1983. The National Zoological Park was closed for half days on the 22nd and 25th, and all day the 26th. At least two keepers spent the night sleeping in the Antelope House, to tend the animals.
