Summary

The Smithsonian-operated National Air and Space Museum cafeterias (including the staff cafeteria) open. The cafeterias had previously been operated by a commercial firm, ARA Services, but when their contract expired on September 7, 1981, the SI created 40 new trust-fund positions for SI staff to work in the cafeteria.
