Summary

The Earl of Percy (Henry Alan Walter Richard Percy) comes to Washington at the invitation of Secretary S. Dillon Ripley. The Earl of Percy is related to James Smithson through the family of Smithson's father, Hugh Smithson, later Hugh Percy, the Duke of Northumberland. He is presented with two portraits of Smithson by the Smithsonian.
