Summary

The Washington Afro-American publishes an article titled "Blacks Cite Discrimination at the Smithsonian." The article included an interview with a Smithsonian spokesman. The article was in response to an editorial page column in its February 23 issue concerning an unidentified SI employee who claimed that she had been passed over for a promotion on the basis of her race. The March 15 issue of the Afro-American identified the complaintant and explained that she had filed a class action discrimination suit in District Court. This issue also contended that the editorial had "resulted in numerous responses from frustrated and disgruntled employees.'"
