Roosevelt Encourages National Gallery, SI

PrintPresident Theodore Roosevelt recommends to the United States Congress that the Smithsonian Institution art collection be established as a gallery of art and that the Institution be authorized to accept additions to the collection. This would allow the Institution to receive the Harriet Lane Johnston bequest of art works.
