Summary

Gary M. Proctor, 26, a Smithsonian security guard since January 1978, shoots and kills himself in a basement office at the Renwick Gallery. The shooting occurs when the guard was turning in his revolver and ammunition at the end of his shift. It is not clear whether the shooting was intentional or accidental.
