Summary

The Viking Lander I is officially transferred to the National Air and Space Museum from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. This makes NASM the only museum in the world to possess an object on another planet, because the Viking Lander I rests on the surface of Mars. A copy of the Lander has been on display at the museum since February 6, 1980.
