Internal Announcement of the American Womens History Initiative
Close
PrintProvost John Davis internally announced the American Womens History Initiative on February 12, 2018. The initiative strives to be the nation's most comprehensive undertaking to document, research, collect, display and share the rich, complete and compelling story of women in America. It will greatly increase the Smithsonian's research and programming related to women in the U.S., past and present. Several exhibitions focusing on women's contributions to American society will open next year as part of the initiative, with more to come in 2020 in recognition of the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage in the United States. Funding from the federal government and private sources has allowed the Smithsonian to hire six additional curators devoted to women's history and related areas.
