- Present: John W. Maury, James A. Pearce, Stephen A. Douglas, James M. Mason, William H. English, David Stuart, James Meacham, and Richard Rush. Also Present: Joseph Henry. Members not present were Roger B. Taney, Alexander Dallas Bache, Joseph G. Totten, Rufus Choate, Gideon Hawley, and John M. Berrien.
- In the absence of the Chancellor, Mr. Pearce was called to the chair. The Secretary laid before the Board for inspection proof-sheets and illustrations of a memoir by John Chappelsmith, on the tornado which occurred near New Harmony, Indiana in 1852. The Secretary stated that use of the lecture room was given to the US Agricultural Society which had held its sessions there during the past week. A continuation of the report of the Secretary was read. The Board then adjourned to meet on Saturday March 4, 1854.
