Jane Wadden Turner, Smithsonian Librarian and Pioneer

PrintJane Wadden Turner (1818-1896) was the first female employee of the Smithsonian, appointed a library clerk in 1857. She had been trained by and assisted her brother, William Wadden Turner, in creating the first catalog of the National Museum's library.
