Owls Disappear from Castle Tower
The last of the barn owls placed in the northwest tower of the Smithsonian Institution Building, "Athena," disappears. Athena and "Alex" (named after former Secretary Alexander Wetmore) were placed in the tower by Secretary Ripley in early 1974, and produced seven owlets.
