Summary

  • Effective June 30, 2013, Kerry Brougher, Deputy Director and Chief Curator of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, assumes the role of Acting Director of the museum. Brougher fills the position after Richard Koshalek, Director of the museum, announced his resignation on May 23, 2013. Koshalek's last day as director is June 29, 2013, but he acts as an advisor to the Smithsonian until August 31, 2013, so that he can ensure a smooth transition.
  • Brougher has been with the Hirshhorn since 2000 and was coordinating curator for "Ai Weiwei: According to What?" and recently organized "Doug Aitken: SONG 1." He is currently co-organizing, with Russell Ferguson of University of California at Los Angeles, "Damage Control: Art and Destruction Since 1950," which opens at the museum in October 2013. He also co-organized award-winning exhibitions such as "Yves Klein: With the Void, Full Powers" with the Walker Art Center and "Visual Music" with the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.
