Summary

The Smithsonian receives $50 million in grants from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. These grants will go towards supporting three new initiatives: $30 million for widening access to the Smithsonian through a Youth Access Endowment, $10 million for four consortia in the Smithsonian's Strategic Plan, and $10 million for the National Museum of African American History and Culture. The Youth Access Endowment aims reach students in underserved areas around the country. With the help from the grants the Smithsonian will develop innovative ways to reach their distant audiences, such as interactive websites and online conferences.
