Summary

The Smithsonian publishes Langley's monograph "Experiments in Aerodynamics" in volume 27 of the Contributions to Knowledge. Two years later, his work "The Internal Work of the Wind" will appear. Five years after Langley's 1906 death, the Institution will also publish the record of his aeronautical contributions, "Langley Memoir on Mechanical Flight." While Langley made important contributions to aerodynamics in the late nineteenth century, his attempts to create the first flying machine were eclipsed by the Wright Brothers on December 17, 2003.
