Summary

  • The Smithsonian names Molly Fannon as the new Director of the Office of International Relations on March 8, 2013. She will begin her tenure on March 25, 2013, and serve as the Institution's representative of international programs.
  • Fannon comes to the position having served the Smithsonian as a consultant for the International Museum Professional Education Programs in Abu Dhabi, Oman, and Singapore. Prior to her work with the Smithsonian, she worked for Booz Allen Hamilton in their International Development and Diplomacy division. She also worked for Chemonics International, a consulting firm that promotes social and economic change around the world. Fannon was a Fulbright Scholar in Argentina, a volunteer consultant on cultural tourism at UNESCO World Heritage sites in Mozambique and has worked in more than 23 countries on six continents. She has a bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia in American and Latin American Studies and is fluent in Spanish.
  • Fannon fills the position after OIR Director Francine C. Berkowitz was named Senior Advisor for International Relations.
