  • Biography: Steven C. LaTourette, a Republican from Ohio, was a nine-term member of the U.S. House of Representatives. He served on the House Appropriations Committee, including its Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies; Legislative Branch; and Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies subcommittees. As a member of the Interior, Environment and Related Agencies Subcommittee, he played a role in determining the funding priorities for the nation's public lands, the protection of its water resources, and the support of numerous cultural agencies, including the Smithsonian Institution. For 14 years, LaTourette served on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and focused on the maintenance and growth of the nation's infrastructure. He was involved in environmental issues and served as Co-Chair of the Great Lakes Task Force for a decade. In 2005, he was named Co-Chair of the Northeast Midwest Coalition and its Manufacturing Task Force, which has oversight of the Great Lakes Task Force. The Co-Founder of the Nursing Caucus, Representative LaTourette also was a leading advocate for nursing issues.
  • LaTourette was born in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, July 22, 1954; graduated from Cleveland Heights High School, Cleveland, Ohio, 1972; B.A., University of Michigan, 1976; J.D., Cleveland State University, Cleveland, Ohio, 1979. He was a lawyer in private practice; then in the public defender's office, Lake County, Ohio, 1980-1983; elected prosecuting attorney of Lake County, Ohio, 1989-1995; elected as a Republican to the One Hundred Fourth and to the eight succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1995-2012).
