Summary

  • The Smithsonian Office of Elementary and Secondary Education publishes the first number of Art to Zoo, a printed teachers' guide published twice per year and distributed to every elementary and secondary school in the United States at no cost. The guide makes Smithsonian collections, exhibitions and expertise available for classroom instruction through illustrated lesson plans aligned with national and state standards.
  • The publication is later renamed Smithsonian in Your Classroom and the Office is renamed the Smithsonian Center for Education and Museum Studies.
