  • Joseph Henry attended Albany Academy in New York State from 1819-1822. He was hired as a teacher by his alma mater and taught there from 1826-1832. From 1832-1846 he taught natural philosophy, or physics, at the College of New Jersey, today known as Princeton University until taking a position as the first secretary of the Smithsonian Institution in 1846.
