• Roman Ghrishman was an Ukrainian-born, French archeologist who specialized in ancient Iran, mainly the archeological ruins of Iran. See also Neg. SIA2011-2827.
• The medal presentation was followed by a formal opening of an exhibition of Islamic ceramics in the Freer's collections, and a symposium on Islamic pottery that drew scholars from throughout the world. The events were the third of three such special programs that marked the Freer's 50th anniversary celebration.
